Supporting You in Your Job Search
You were not born with job search skills pre-programmed into your mind. Like any other skill set, effective job search is learned. We have the benefit of getting the employer perspective, given that we provide employers service and pay attention to what they need. Reap the benefits of our wide array of job search support services.
Students can use our job search resources to help create professional resume and cover letters. In addition, we are glad to look at your resume and covering letters, to provide helpful feedback and suggestions. This will ensure that, when you are contacting employers in writing, you are making the best possible impression.
Interviews can be a pretty intense and nerve racking experience. When preparing for interviews, our students are able to access helpful tips on how to put their best foot forward. For those who would like to walk through the process, we offer one-on-one "mock" interviews. Students tell us that the feedback they get after the "mock" interview is very helpful, not only to understand how they would come across to the interviewer, but also helps them to know what to expect in the all-important real interview.
Want a list of career/work related sites? As part of our role, we keep informed of helpful online job search resources. One of our favourites is Workinfonet, a government funded site that functions like a "web library", linking you to all kinds of work, job search and career related information.
Recruitment Events
Wouldn't it be great if we brought the employers to your door? We frequently invite employers to visit on campus to give them an opportunity to meet students. Many hold information sessions, and some even interview and hire on the spot! This can be a great opportunity for you to network in an environment where you feel comfortable.
Be sure to check out our annual Job Fair that takes place in the spring. Typically this event draws about 50 employers and over 150 company representatives who are scouting for your skills and talents, as a Fleming student or graduate.
Field Placement/Work Term
Approximately 40 programs at Fleming College's Sutherland Campus contain a varying lengths of field placement. This provides a valuable opportunity for students to apply skills learned in the classroom to real work settings. Employers gain benefit from having students who bring up-to-date knowledge and fresh new ideas, so it becomes a win-win situation. In order to ensure that our students have one-stop shopping, we communicate all field placement opportunities on Fleming's Workopolis Campus, our online job posting system.
To find out if your chosen program includes a field placement/work term component, visit our academic program pages. If you have questions related to the field placement in a specific program, please contact the program coordinator.
Don't Wait Until You Graduate
Looking toward your future, we can also help you to become prepared for the exciting career opportunities that await you after graduation. We know that the students who begin to plan for their careers early are the ones who are the most successful and we are here to provide support along the way. As we often say: "Don't wait until you graduate, begin your career search today."
When you become a graduate of any Fleming College program, you are welcome to take advantage of the services for graduates and alumni, to help you succeed with your long term career plans.
Graduate Placement Report
This report is based on employment statistics, as reported by graduates, conducted by Forum Research, through the authority of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
The graduate employment information is collected and reported, for a one-week period of time referred to as a "REFERENCE WEEK". The Reference Week occurs approximately 6 months after graduation and is selected by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
Please note that "Reference Week" data does not take into consideration any graduate employment that may have occurred outside this period of time. Given that the Reference Week data is for a set, one-week period, it may be affected by seasonal/situational fluctuations and trends in recruitment cycle of employers in certain industries. For further discussion on factors that impact upon graduate employment, or to get more information on graduated employment within a 6-month period of time after graduation, please contact Fleming Data Research or Career Services at 705-749-5530.
