MEDIA RELEASE FROM TOWN OF COBOURG:

(Cobourg, ON) March 12, 2018 – The Town of Cobourg and the Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) are pleased to receive a $100,000 investment from Fleming College that will go towards supporting technical components within the Venture13 Innovation Centre while also accelerating innovative programming.

The investment will support the technical side of Venture13 ensuring that the innovation centre promotes easy and constant interaction, stimulates further innovation and facilitates entrepreneurship to commercialize concepts so that ideas, and businesses based on them, grow in the area. It will also go towards outfitting seminar rooms and the lecture theatre with state-of-the-art audio visual suites that will allow for real-time remote lecturing providing a great user experience.

“This investment in Venture13 will greatly enhance skills development in Cobourg and Northumberland County,” says David Francis, Dean of Professional and Continuing Education at Fleming College. “As a primary post-secondary partner, Fleming College will deliver industry training in business and leadership training, trades and technology.”

In November 2017, Venture13 welcomed Fleming College to its strategic board of innovation partners. Fleming College will deliver a technical programming component with courses booked on a regular basis at the centre in time for its grand opening.

A regionally unique facility, Venture13 will focus on the advancement of technology entrepreneurship, making and learning while connecting entrepreneurs, start-ups and high-growth SMEs with industry, academia, investors and the region’s economic development professionals.

“Northumberland CFDC is pleased to see Fleming College as a key strategic value partner within Venture13,” said Wendy Curtis, Executive Director, Northumberland Community Futures Development Corporation. “One of the main goals of Venture13 is to bring together local innovation-focused organizations with our wider network of regional innovation centres across Eastern Ontario. Fleming is an ideal key partner in this initiative as they offer innovative programming that addresses the needs of both local and regional businesses.

With a goal to position Northumberland County and Eastern Ontario as a place for technology entrepreneurship and innovation, Venture13 aims to attract next generation companies that will contribute to the region’s economic development and diversification. The innovation centre will consolidate resources and infrastructure within a single accessible and collaborative space.
