Training Highlights

This suite of water operator and wastewater operator courses is being offered in association with the Centre for Advancement of Water and Wastewater Technologies (CAWT). The CAWT is a world renowned hub for alternative wastewater treatment expertise, research and resources, and is located at Lindsay's Frost Campus. Our skilled trainers provide real-world expertise, and an effective, interactive, enjoyable learning environment.

More than 25 accredited courses are currently available through various delivery methods:

Admission Requirements

The minimum admission requirement for entrance into this program is: 19 years of age or older, or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or its equivalent.


Attention Drinking Water Operators

Upon successful completion of an approved online course, users are prompted to submit a survey. In this survey you must indicate that you are a Drinking Water Operator, provide permission for the college to share information with OWWCO, and provide your Operator ID number. This survey must be completed before we can submit information to OWWCO.

Disinfection-Chlorination Equipment and Maintenance

Upgrade your knowledge of the various techniques used to disinfect wastewater plant effluent. Chlorination, ozonation and ultraviolet disinfection methods are reviewed, but the main focus is on disinfection by chlorination. Dechlorination

This course is designed for water and wastewater operators who are required to dechlorinate water in their facility. The need for dechlorination in the water/wastewater sectors is discussed. The focus of this course is on using sulfur dioxide and sodium sulfite salts to remove chlorine from water. The course explains the chemical reactions that underlie dechlorination as well as the hazards and safety concerns that come with working with sulfur dioxide and sulfite salts. Dechlorination equipment, operation, troubleshooting common issues and shutdown procedures for sulfonators will also be discussed. The course includes lab and field practice. The course is MECP Director approved O. Reg.903., and the successful completion of this course is one of the requirements for an Ontario Class 5 Well Technician License. MECP Approved Drinking Water Operator O.Reg 128/04 2.8 CEUs (ID 11716).
