More than 100 International Students attend Fleming College’s International Orientation

Published

Peterborough – (Sept. 2, 2015) – Fleming College is hosting a three day International Orientation event from Wednesday, Sept. 2 to Friday, Sept. 4, 2015. More than 100 new international students have registered for the event, including students from Fleming’s Frost Campus in Lindsay, Ont.

Students travelling from India, Finland, Mexico, Japan, Egypt, Russia, China, USA, Nigeria Ghana, and Italy can participate in sessions and activities to help them transition to college life in Canada. Sessions include the “Canadian Experience: What does that mean?” “Canadian Classroom Expectations,” a bus tour to Peterborough, and information about Fleming College resources and services.

Raina Aiman travelled from Mangalore, India for Fleming College’s Biotechnology – Advanced program. “I find the Orientation event to be really helpful. We learned how to interact with Canadians” said Raina, who arrived three days ago. “We had some activities and it really helped us open up to others. It’s very different here from home, so we’re nervous to interact with Canadians, so this helps.”

Raina said that Canada is warmer than she expected. “I thought there’d be snow all of the time,” she said.

Amanda Gray, International Student Services Coordinator explained that “International Student Orientation is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about Canada, our local communities and Fleming College, before they start classes next week.  It is a chance to meet new friends and upper semester students who are volunteering throughout the three days. By mixing fun and learning, we’re hoping students leave orientation prepared to start their classes next week and feel part of our community,” she said.
