Cancellations and Closures During Inclement Weather and Emergencies

Full-Time Support Staff at Ontario colleges are on strike as of September 11

All campuses will remain open and classes will be delivered remotely wherever possible. In-person labs will proceed as scheduled, unless you are notified otherwise. Please check your D2L course page regularly for updates. To help you stay informed, please visit flemingcollege.ca/bargaining-updates.

Please note that it is standard practice in all labour disruptions to establish a Picket Line Protocol to ensure safe access for staff, public, and in our case, students. Fleming College engaged with our Full-Time Support Staff Union prior to the strike, to ensure safe and less disruptive conditions; however, the union refused to sign. Safety of our campus users is paramount and without signed protocols we cannot allow access to picketers.

To serve as a reminder, bargaining is centrally managed by the College Employer Council (CEC), and we hope a fair agreement is reached for all parties.

Cancellations and Closures During Inclement Weather and Emergencies

Fleming College remains open every day of the year with the exception of the December holiday break and statutory holidays.

On occasion, severe weather conditions or other emergencies such as utility failures or floods may require an individual campus or the College to close as conditions are unsafe or effectively running classes becomes impractical. Should this action be necessary, the College will provide as much notice as possible to minimize inconvenience. Fleming College will announce class cancellations and campus closures using the following media tools:

When severe weather conditions or emergencies occur, the college will announce one of the following options for either the whole college or individual campuses:

  • Fleming College is Open
Services are open and classes are as scheduled.
  • Fleming College Classes are Cancelled. Services Remain Open
Services are open with reduced staffing.
  • Fleming College is Closed
Students and employees are not to come to the college.

For weather event related cancellations or closures, the College will make every effort to have announcements made by 6:30 a.m. for daytime classes and by 3:00 p.m. for evening classes.

Students and employees are to exercise their own judgement regarding whether or not it is safe for them to travel to campus during inclement weather.

Please be aware that cancellation of local primary and secondary school buses does not necessarily mean the college will cancel classes or close campuses.

Additional information for students and staff is available on the Security & Parking Services website.
