Celebrating 50 Years: Fleming College’s First Nursing Graduates Reunite During National Nursing Week

May 15th marked an important milestone in Fleming College’s history.
Our very first graduating class from the nursing program came together to celebrate their 50th anniversary — fittingly, during National Nursing Week.
The reunion took place at Rolling Grape Vineyard on a spring afternoon. Former classmates reunited, shared memories, and reflected on five decades of nursing, friendship, and growth. Many had not seen each other in years, but conversations picked up as if it was just yesterday.
A highlight of the event was seeing original nursing caps and class rings from the 1970s. These items were more than memorabilia — they represented the strength, compassion, and dedication that have defined this group throughout their careers. The legacy they began at Fleming continues to influence communities today.
We’re grateful to everyone who attended and helped make the day memorable. A special thank you to Jane Cathcart, who initiated the idea for the reunion and brought a cake that everyone enjoyed.
To those who couldn’t join us — you were missed!
We’re already looking ahead to our fall gathering and hope to see even more familiar faces there. In the meantime, we invite everyone to reflect on the impact nurses make every day — and to celebrate the legacy of this remarkable first graduating class.
Here’s to many more milestones ahead.
